Santa drops in as Halo Post upgrades its main studio
Halo, a UK post production house, has entered the film mixing market, taking over the Noel Street premises previously occupied by Pepper Post, which has ceased operations. The facility – including the USP-equipped DFC in Studio 1 – was already highly spec’d, but Halo has immediately invested in uprating it, aiming not only to attract UK film work but to offer itself as an outside resource for Hollywood.
David Turner, previously head of sound for Pepper Post, has joined Halo as director of film post production. ‘The UK film industry desperately needs quality dubbing stages like Studio 1 at Noel Street,’ he says. ‘Halo’s decision to take over the premises works on so many levels, not least to save and enhance this spectacular and highly regarded dubbing theatre from possible demise.’
One of the company’s first decisions was to configure Studio 1 for 7.1 sound, upgrading the AMS Neve DFC with new LED-style TFTs and Encore2 automation in the process. The move has already paid off: Halo is currently working on the final mix of Sony Animation’s Arthur Christmas, due for release in November 2011.
Other AMS Neve facilities involved in audio post for Arthur Christmas include De Lane Lea and Goldcrest Post, while Harry Gregson-Williams’s score was recorded on the Neve 88RS at Abbey Road.
