Genesys gives Five Towns College the best of both worlds

Top US music education facility opts for Neve analogue sound plus comprehensive DAW control for its main audio technology room
Five Towns College, based in Long Island, New York, has upgraded its audio engineering teaching facilities with the purchase of a 24-fader Neve Genesys console for its main teaching studio. With a curriculum specializing in music, the music business and music production – it is one of only eight institutions in New York State authorized to confer the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in addition to its bachelor and master of arts degree courses – the college is dedicated to providing its students with the best possible ‘real world’ experience.
When the time came for an upgrade to Studio C, its most sophisticated room, the tutors at Five Towns College recognized the need for a new console that would demonstrate the hybrid nature of the music tracking and mixing environment in today’s recording studios. Its new Genesys, comprehensively spec’d with Neve Encore Plus automation, 24 channels of EQ and dynamics and 8 channels of 1073 transformer-equipped pre-amps, plus Neve Total Recall™ software, fits the bill perfectly.
‘Many studios have made the transition to mixing within the computer,’ explained John Machado, co-chair of the college’s Audio Division. ‘However, the best studios use equipment that gives them the best of the analogue and the digital world. This hybrid approach can be seen in the Neve Genesys console. We still have real hardware EQs, preamps and dynamics processing, but have the ability to control Pro Tools in the box as well.’
The console was supplied by GC Pro, exclusive US distributor for the Neve Genesys, for installation during autumn 2009.
