AMS Neve facilities dominate Conch Awards
30 September 2008

Majority of award-winners use AMS Neve equipment
The 2008 Conch Awards for Film, Commercial and Television Sound – the UK Screen Association’s showcase for the audio post-production talents of individuals and facilities within the UK – was held at The Mayfair Hotel, London, on Thursday 25th September. This year there were more categories, but, more importantly, there were also more applicants. That is not just a measure of how important these awards have become in just three years. It also means competition is stiffer, thereby underlining the outstanding audio skills of those who win a Conch. Within such esteemed company it was noteworthy that the majority of awards went to AMS Neve equipped facilities. It was a successful evening all round.
• Best Music Production went to Mike Higham of both AIR Studios and Out of Eden Studio for his work on Sweeney Todd. The music was scored on an 88R and mixed on AIR’s recently installed DFC Gemini.
• The Best Film Soundtrack (under £10 million budget) was awarded for Happy Go Lucky, mixed by Robert Farr on a DFC at Goldcrest Post in London.
• Best TV Dubbing Mixer was awarded to the well respected Pip Norton at Breathe Post Production, part of the AIR Studios facility.
• Mark Taylor of MJM Sound was named Best UK Film Re-Recording Mixer. A Bafta award winner for his work on Casino Royale, he has recently been mixing Quantum of Solace at De Lane Lea, while the show reel presented during The Conch award nominations highlighted his work on The Golden Compass. All three films were mixed on AMS Neve DFC consoles.
• Best Audio on a TV Drama was won by Hackenbacker (pictured above) for the BBC’s popular drama series Ashes To Ashes. Hackenbacker, an AMS Neve MMC equipped facility, has already been the recipient of five previous Conch awards and 2008 saw it receive a further two, including the prestigious Best UK TV Sound Facility award.
• Chris Roberts of Ascent 142 was the deserving winner of Best UK TV Sound Editor/Designer. The Ascent 142 studios include AMS Neve Libras and a DFC console.
• DFC equipped De Lane Lea added to its raft of awards, winning Best Film Soundtrack (over £10 million budget) for Sweeney Todd and also Best UK Film Sound Facility.
AMS Neve congratulates all those individuals and facilities that were nominated for an award. It is a great achievement. Special congratulations go to all the recipients of The Conch this year. We are delighted to see such successes.
