Legend Meets Future
Eight Legendary 1073® remote-controlled Preamps with Marinair® Transformers, USB and Dante digital connectivity taking the Classic Neve preamp sound into the future.
Launched in 1970, the 1073® soon became the mic preamp of choice for leading producers and engineers and has since become the world’s most desirable preamplifier. Designed and manufactured in England by AMS Neve to this day, it’s unique tonal quality, warmth, low-mid punch and subtle harmonic distortion gives studios of all sizes the most prestigious front-end for their recordings.
The 1073OPX continues the 1073® pedigree, packing eight legendary preamps into a 2U rack unit. Front and rear connectors give comprehensive connectivity to any Studio/Live/Broadcast environment and modern remote-control software gives two-way control with Total Recall™ of all settings with Save/load feature. Mic input sources benefit from the Marinair(R) transformer-coupled input stage and sources can be connected directly to the front-mounted Mic/Line/DI input for recording in the studio control-room.
The 1073OPX’s analogue and digital monitor signal path allows use as a complete standalone I/O interface or as a live room remote preamp with a full, latency-free monitoring cue mix signal path. The optional digital I/O card comes with Neve’s industry-revered mastering-grade converters with up to 192kHz/24-Bit A/D conversion over USB connection for use as a Primary Audio Interface to any connected DAW-enabled computer as well as Primary and Secondary Dante® connectivity for Audio-over-IP applications.

Absolute winner. Killer sonics and a killer deal.
The Neve 1073 OPX is a device that is appealing to three distinct users. The producer/engineer who wants to add a healthy dose of 8 Neve 1073 stye Mic Pre's to their tone palet. The Dante Audio Network users who would like to integrate up to 8 of these units in one go, and finally the serious songwriter/producers who demand the highest quality and flexibility out of an interface. Thats no easy feat to fit into a 2U 8 channel device.
This unit delivers serious tone, more open and defined than what I was expecting, that is not to say that it is clinical or cold. It glues musical components together effortlessly, while still allowing for a little of that air and definition we expect from AMS Neve. After having the review unit for a month, I am aware of the hole gaping hole in my work flow. Having the ease of connections both front and rear has got me scrambling for DI boxes and patch cables all over again. Having recorded 4 full productions with this unit, a variety of genres and instruments, I can honestly say that any reservations I had before using it are now not only gone, but the OPX has exceeded my expectations.
The price is high when you think of it as a stand alone unit, but when you think of it as 8 Neve Transformer Balanced Input Mic Pre's, 8 DI Inputs and the possibility of it being an interface via Dante or USB. Its a seriously good deal.
